Let's Go Krogering! Thursday, April 30, 2009

Hi there, happy readers!

Let's Go Krogering! is late this week; apologies if you've been looking to link up your own fantastic Kroger or Kroger-affliated store finds!

It's almost May and I think my clock and calendar are conspiring against me - there is just so much going on this coming month as school winds down and spring sports blast off at full speed. Add to that all the fun events that happen on May weekends and *BOOM!* life gets busy fast!

I'm going to scale back a bit what I'm posting here each week to accomodate the realities of my life as Mom; I'll be updating my schedule later tonight.

Alrighty - let's get down to the Krogering!

My trip, Tuesday, April 28:

Spent: $118.11
Saved: $68.33 or 36%

As I noted in my weekly meal plan right here, I'm cooking doubled up menus all this week and freezing the extras for next week so I'll have one less thing to fit into my schedule.

While my total is high for this week (yowsa!), I know I'll come in low next week since my dinners for the week are already in the freezer. I'm also hoping to see another super-duper sale at Kroger in early May...fingers crossed, right?!

Best finds:

:: Milk: $1.75 gallon (This is a great price -- time to make some waffles or pancakes for the freezer!)

:: Barilla Piccolini Pasta, $1.39 ea
--> Used $0.50/1, SS 03/29, doubled to $1.00
Final price for me: $0.39 ea

:: Bumblebee Tuna Pouch, $1.49 ea
--> Used $0.55/1, SS 02/22, doubled to $1.00
Final price for me: $0.49 ea

How'd you do at your Kroger or Kroger-affiliated store this week? Share your success and your deals - they might help another reader!

**As always, please add a link back to my Let's Go Krogering! post in your Krogering post and be sure that you add your post's permalink to the Mr. Linky so everyone else can find your deals (rather than just linking back to your blog's homepage). Need help doing this? Email me and I'll walk you through it!**

Menu Plan Monday: Weeks of April 27 AND May 4

It's nearly May and this year, our two oldest are both playing sports at the same time (t-ball and softball). Adding to the craziness of trying to balance two team schedules for the first time, we've got events planned on every weekend in May.

It's a busy, busy time of year, isn't it?

In order to *attempt* to save my sanity, I'm doing a Double Duty Dinner Menu Plan; I'll cook double amounts of each main dish listed and freeze the extras for next week where I'll serve them up again...with a fantastic new twist! {Or so I hope!}

If this works well, I'll so the same type of menu plan again in two weeks on Monday, May 11.

Here's the plan with the items I'll make in DOUBLED quantities in bold.

Monday

Turkey Sandwiches, fruit, leftover pasta salad

Tuesday

Spaghetti and Meatballs

Wednesday

Oven Fried Chicken + Sweet Potato Oven Fries

Thursday

Caramel Apple Pork Chops (don't those sound YUM?!) + steamed veggies and Rice-a-Roni

Friday

Grilled Bacon Wrapped Burgers (life is better with bacon!) + Hot Dogs + tossed salad and baked beans

Saturday

Honey Mustard Grilled Chicken over Fettuccine with Sweet Pepper Cayenne Sauce + tossed salad and bread

Sunday

Free Day!
{Luck to all my readers running the Flying Pig! I'll be down there cheering for my awesome...and good looking, single, Catholic, very fit...brother-in-law!}

Here's hoping my doubled recipes work!

What are you cooking this week? Need help? See the loads of links over at Menu Plan Monday at Orgjunkie.com; you'll find lots of menus to inspire you!

Blessed Am I: Watching My Children Grow in Faith

The button code is in the box below; feel free to use this button and link your own Blessed Am I post in the Mr. Linky box at the very end. Thanks!

<em><a href="http://thenewfrugalmom.com"><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4PVFXX60X44/ScRXRQoJHyI/AAAAAAAABvk/irhcU9KL2SI/s400/Blessed+am+I+202x227.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5315469414236757794" /></a>
</em>

Today, my daughter celebrates her First Communion. She is so very excited for this special sacrament in the Catholic Church.

Yesterday, I helped with the Jesus Day Retreat/First Communion Practice for her and all the other second graders who will make their First Communion in the coming days at our Church. All the kids put on skits (with help from the parent volunteers) acting out infamous Bible stories (The Good Samaritan, The Lost Sheep, etc) and she was full of answers when asked what Jesus meant by each parable. Up in church, she was full of excitement and anticipation as she practiced for the special First Communion Mass today.

I grew up in a Catholic extended family but one of my parents is not Catholic and is more of an agnostic than anything else. It made for an interesting upbringing to say the least.

What I took away from my own faith formation is simply this: God likes us to ask questions. He's always willing to listen when we doubt and He never, ever, ever gives up on us even when we take a break from Him.

I've never doubted God's presence in my life but I have grown deeper in my own faith as I've walked through this life. Meeting my husband Knute {and feeling smacked upside the head by God with the certainty that Knute was The One} helped to lead my down the path to a richer faith life.

It's wonderful to see my daughter so engaged by her own growing faith at a young age. I know that life will become more complicated as she grows older and more aware of the injustices and tragedies perpetuated in this world; she will have her own questions and doubts to muddle through as I did.

I just hope she remembers what we've told her:

People quit on God every day but He NEVER quits on us.

I hope you feel blessed in some way - small or great - this week. If you'd like to share a post about what's good in your life, feel free to add your post link to the Mr. Linky below.

I'll have both of those up later tonight; my daughter is celebrating her First Communion today and we're heading out for a lovely dinner with our extended family after taking a gazillion pictures of her and her classmates.

I hope the sun is shining brightly on you today! Have a wonderful Sunday!

My Frugal Journey: Reality vs. Planning

Well, it's Saturday, not Friday, and I'm waiting for 3 yards of mulch and 1 yard of topsoil to be delivered to our house.

Cost - spendy, over $100, but certainly cheaper than buying it by bag.

I also spent some dollars (about sixty of them) on plants yesterday at Lowe's.

So, what's the point of landscaping spending confession?

Simply this: I have gone waaaayyyy off track for my April budget with all of our yard projects, both those we anticipated doing (like adding a yard drain to deal with the swampiness every time it rains) as well as the finishing up project we're tackling today, raised beds with ornamental grasses on the border of our yard where the water enters.

Adding to the extra cashoola we've spent on landscaping to *hopefully* create a drier backyard, we hosted Easter two weeks ago and are celebrating our daughter's First Communion tomorrow. While we don't go overboard in our festivities in general, any type of party means more spent than normal.

And I did not adequately plan for those extra expenses. Money that would have gone to our next debt payoff was instead allocated to the yard improvements.

I could beat myself up over this {as I smack myself with a wet noodle} but that's not going to move me forward is it?

Instead, I'm looking at that extra money spent on all the improvements as a smart investment in our property and setting plans to get back on track in May.

No matter how much we humans plan to win at whatever challenge lies before us, life has a way of throwing curveballs and adding extra innings to the game. You can choose to play them out and try again, or you can just sit on the bench.

{Can you tell it's baseball season for my kiddos?}

I'm going to keep planning and playing and working toward winning my goal: a debt-free financial life.

Has the reality of life thrown you off your financial plan? What steps did you take to get back on track? Inspire us!

$~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~$

Click here for my post for this week's (04/20-04/26) Kroger Ad Matchup with current coupons (Cincy Region).

It's another week of the 10 for $10 sale at Kroger - there are some decent stockpile items, but nothing I really needed for our family.

Here's my trip from Monday, 4/20:

Spent: $93.10

Saved: $67.69, or 42%

I'm under budget for the week ($100), but I think the festivities of celebrating Easter at our house may have pushed me over budget for the month overall. Time to get caught up on my number crunching!

One of my best finds yesterday was Kroger Active Lifestyle Yogurt Smoothies on sale 3/$2.00, or $0.67 each. I haven't seen yogurt smoothies on sale for a while so I bought a bunch. Yum!

I also stocked up on FREE with doubled coupon (see below) McCormick Grill Mates and several Kroger Value spices which were all priced at $1.00 as well.

And...I still can't believe I paid full price for toilet paper! Oh, how I miss the Cottonelle 4 pk!

Don't forget, if you bought a ham or a turkey this month to go check out the $20 rebate on either when you buy $40 of Unilever products (and you can buy these over multiple trips in April). Full details on this rebate as well as a list of participating products can be found right here.

Coupons I used for my trip + current price of item before coupon; note that my Kroger offers unlimited doubled coupons and doubles coupons to a maximum doubled value of $1.00.

:: Buy1Get1FREE Kellogg's Shredded Wheat, Vocalpoint mailer coupon (sale price $2.18 ea)

:: $1.00/1 Coffeemate liquid or powder printable here (sale price 32 oz $2.50)

:: $1.00/2 Lawry's Marinade, RP 04/05 (sale price $1.00 ea)

:: (3) $0.75/1 McCormick's Spice or Blend, RP 04/05

:: Buy1Get1FREE Welch's Aqua Juice printable here (regular price $3.79)

:: $1.50/1 Welch's Aqua Juice, Kroger Catalina

:: $1.00/4 Rice-a-Roni, RP 03/08 (sale price $1.00 ea)

:: FREE up to $1.29 Franks Hot Sauce, SS 03/01 (regular price $1.19)

:: $0.75/2 BumbleBee Chunk Light Tuna packets, Kroger Catalina (regular price $1.49 ea)

:: $1.00/2 Dole Salad Blends, Kroger Mailer coupon (regular price $1.28 ea)

How'd you do at your Kroger or Kroger-affiliated store this week? Share your success and your deals - they might help another reader!

I just wanted to give all my fave Kroger-loving, deal-finding bloggers a heads up:

Money Smarts: Garage Sales v. eBaying

Money Smarts is a new weekly feature here at The New Frugal Mom, one that will focus on how to monetize your blog, wahm opportunities, budgeting, and just generally saving more money while earning (legitimately) a few bucks as well.

For more details about the origins of Money Smarts, click
here.

Our neighborhood association is hosting a community garage sale next weekend. I won't be participating - our weekend is already jammed with sports and with plans for our daughter's First Communion.

But...I probably wouldn't participate in the garage sale even if I had the time.

Why?

Well, while I like going to garage sales and treasure-hunting, putting on a successful garage sale is a big, big investment of time for one day of selling. Bad weather can lead to low turnout. I'm always worried that my time investment will be wasted, and time, my friends, is one thing I hate to waste.

In the past, rather than sell gently used kids clothes and toys at a garage sale (kids toys and clothes being the items that I'm always trying to move out of my house), I've sold the best of the items on eBay to make extra cash. The items that were worse for wear, I donated (and still do) to Goodwill or St. Vincent de Paul.

Why I like selling on eBay? I can pace myself and list items when I'm ready to sell them, a few items a week. I can match my items to seasonal demand (summer clothes, Halloween costumes, etc). And when I need to take a break from it, I do; it's been over a year since I sold items on eBay. It will be easy for me to step right back into selling once again.

Selling on eBay can seem daunting, but rest assured if I can do it, you can, too. There are many tutorials on eBay that will walk you through the process; if you're looking for a good ebook to teach you about eBaying, Suzanne Powers, the eBay Selling Coach is offering her ebook free.

Click here for her free ebook; Suzanne, thanks for offering this useful guide for free to the world. I'm sure it will help someone get started.

Now, you tell me - which do you prefer? Holding a big old garage sale and getting it all done in a day or two? Or selling on eBay...or even Craigslist? Or do you simply donate and take the tax deduction?

Kroger Ad Matchup (Cincinnati Region): April 20-26, 2009

This week's Kroger Ad Matchups for the Cincinnati region will be posted in the body of this post (rather than as a web-published and printer-friendly GoogleDoc). GoogleDocs is having some issues today across the web; let's hope all is back to normal by next week!

Nothing spectacular at Kroger this week; the sale this week is mostly a repeat of last week's 10 for $10 Mix and Match sale.

To view your local Kroger's Weekly ad, click here.

I note the best coupon matchups for the sale items; there may be more coupon matchups out there. Please check the free database at Hot Coupon World if you want to find all the coupons available.

Also, please note that coupons do vary in value from region to region; your values may differ from mine.

WeFitFamiles.com Blog Bash/Mother's Day Mega Bash Giveaway!

Calling all busy moms!

WeFitFamiles.com, a forum dedicated to helping moms and families live healthier lifestyles, has a great Mother's Day Mega Bash planned on Twitter on Friday, May 1, 9 :00 pm EST with a Grand Prize Package for (1) lucky winner:

A $200 gift card to the winner's local grocery store and a McCormick Spices Gift Basket loaded with McCormick's Super Spices for Health.

To enter to win the Grand Prize, click here for the full details and rules.

To make this party even more fun, WeFitFamiles.com has partnered with 25 bloggers to host a giveaway to get the word out about the Mother's Day Mega Bash...and yours truly is one of them!

I like to think that my family is a fit family; both my hubs and I are active athletically (he plays in league sports while I like to run). We play with our kids outside in all seasons and we have our oldest two involved in youth sports. While we hope that they'll have fun learning how to play a new sport, we really just want them to get some exercise while learning about the importance of team work as well.

We are definitely a team-philosophy family here as well; we pull together as a team to get things done around the house...well, as much as you can get done with three kids 7 and under "helping"! The ultimate message that my hubs and I want our kids to take away from our team spirit is this (words said often by my late FIL):

You can always count on your family.

Being a fit and healthy mom means my family can count on me. It's never easy for us busy moms to find the time to run or workout, but it's worth it because you're worth it.

Onto the giveaway!

Preggie Pops has graciously offered a prize valued at $20 for (4) of their natural lollipops (Preggie Pops) and lozenges (Preggie Pop Drops) to fight morning sickness to (1) lucky winner here at The New Frugal Mom!

I well remember suffering weeks of terrible morning sickness with all of my pregnancies; while I've never tried Preggie Pops myself, I would have loved the chance to while I was pregnant. Morning sickness (or, in my case, morning-noon-and-night sickness) is no fun, peeps!

How to enter:

You MUST have a Twitter ID to enter this giveaway (as per the rules set forth by WeFitFamilies.com). You MUST leave your Twitter ID in your entry comment; entries without Twitter IDs will be disqualified.

1. Leave a comment telling me how you're trying to be a healthier, fitter mom or how you're trying to be a healthier, fitter family. Small changes or big changes - share them!

2. Subscribe to my feed by email or in a feed reader. Leave me a comment letting me know you subscribed (or are a current subscriber).

3. Tweet about this giveaway post; come back and leave me a comment letting me know you tweeted.

This giveaway will close on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at 11:59 pm EST; show up on 5/1/09 to the Mother's Day Mega Bash (hashtag #fitfam on Twitter) to see if you win! The winners will be announced at the party!

Visit all the participating blogs and enter to win their giveaways, too!

Blessed Am I: SPRING!!

The button code is in the box below; feel free to use this button and link your own Blessed Am I post in the Mr. Linky box at the very end. Thanks!

<em><a href="http://thenewfrugalmom.com"><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4PVFXX60X44/ScRXRQoJHyI/AAAAAAAABvk/irhcU9KL2SI/s400/Blessed+am+I+202x227.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5315469414236757794" /></a>
</em>

Spring is finally here in my hometown and here in full bloom!

I love spring; it's hands down my favorite time of year. The green grass contrasted against the blue sky; the bulbs in bloom; the trees opening into new leaves - the earth bursts with new life and anything seems possible.

Of course, it shouldn't take the blush of a pink tulip or the sight of the first dogwood blossoms to make me feel that way; every day is a chance to start anew.

When my kids have a bad day (and oh boy, do they all!), I always tell them when I'm tucking them into bed that when the sun comes up tomorrow, it's a whole new day to be their best self. A new day to try again.

Spring days come and bring newness to our world, but every day is a new beginning.

And every day is a gift - even those rainy, muddy, bills-to-pay, whiny kid days.

How do you feel blessed this week? Add your link below if you've got a post about those small or big blessings that came your way this week. Feel free to grab my button code from above it you'd like to add the image to your post. Thanks!

Me Elsewhere: Getting Crafty!

This post should really include this disclosure:

I am completely and utterly craft-challenged!

But my lack of talent success patience for all things crafty hasn't kept me from trying some fun crafts with my three children. They enjoy the freedom to make a big mess and I have fun watching them have fun.

My sanity-saving method of crafting involves choosing easy crafts that are good for a range of ages and abilities. And today, I was happy to guest post about those messy and easy crafts for my dear bloggy friend Alyssa at Kingdom First Mom.

To read the full guest post, click here.

And, while you're visiting Alyssa's blog, go take a peek at her new son born on Tax Day! Congrats, Alyssa - he is an adorable little miracle! Thank you for sharing photos of him with all of us.

I'll be posting some freebies and getting back on track tomorrow as Spring Break winds down here; thanks to all of you, my uber-fabulous readers, for bearing with me while I hung out with my tribe of blue-eyed sweetie pies this week.

I {heart} my readers! Thanks for reading and subscribing to The New Frugal Mom!

Spring {Blogging} Break

Hey howdy hey!

I'm in Day 2 of Spring Break with my three kiddos; I've decided to take a little break this week myself so I can focus on them and perhaps get caught up elsewhere in my life.

I'm skipping Let's Go Krogering! this week (there are few deals of note, anyhow; you can see my list of matchups for Kroger, Cincinnati Region 4/13-4/19 right here).

I'll be back at the end of the week (Friday) with a monster freebie roundup and *hopefully* a rested and rejuvenated outlook.

Now if only I could find a way to turn off the rain...!

My Frugal Journey: Letting Go - Spending on Planned Expenses

We bought our current home about two years ago; we love our little town and are more than happy with our house.

But we have had issues with water runoff and storm drainage in our backyard; our neighborhood is built on a series of hills. While we're lucky to have a level backyard, our yard is lower than three of the yards that are adjacent to ours.

Meaning when it rains, it gets swampy out back. Ick!

Not wanting to push our issue downhill to another neighbor (and no one is doing that to us; this issue is due to poor planning on the developer's part some ten years or more ago), we opted to have a catch basin (yard drain) installed in the lowest part of our yard with drain line running through the side yard to the front. Just past where the drain line ends, we had a River Birch tree installed.

It's a beautiful tree and the local landscapers did a great job on the project; now we just have to settle our bill.

And that's the point of this post, my friends.

We have the money put aside to pay for this little improvement but it is HARD to part with those funds. My dual desires to pay off our consumer debt as fast as possible as well as keep a healthy stash of cash available during this recessionary economy make it difficult to write that check.

But this is where I force myself to step back and think of the big picture.

This is where I remind myself that being frugal shouldn't be synonymous with being cheap.

We needed to do this improvement (and this is only step one; we have some landscaping to do - a do-it-ourselves job - to finish the Anti-Swamp Plan of Action) because the alternative - not doing it - would lead to greater (and more expensive to remedy) problems down the road.

Being frugal doesn't mean you never spend any money; it means that you when you do spend your money, you spend it wisely.

Investing in improvements to keep our backyard drained of storm runoff will not only improve the value of our property in the long term, it will improve the quality of our lives in the short term because our outdoor space will more functional.

Now if only I could let go of my deep-seated aversion to muddy footprints and pawprints across my kitchen floor...

;-)

Have a wonderful Easter weekend with your family and friends!

In Memory of Madeline Alice Spohr

This post was originally published on my personal blog earlier today; I'm publishing it here as well because I want to share the story of the life of Madeline Spohr with as many of my kind readers as possible. Maddie was a darling little girl who passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 - far, far too soon to be gone from this world.

If you have read about
Madeline and have already acted to support her parents, Heather and Mike through words or deeds, God Bless you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In Memory of Madeline Alice Spohr
I wrote this post earlier this morning as I sat wondering just how any mother can bear the loss of a child.
I don't know Heather personally, but I grieve for her and for her pain and for the pain so many other grieving mothers have faced head-on in their blogs as they write words no parent, no mother, should ever need to: my baby died today.
I have no words to ease their pain.
Only hope, and love.
You can read about Maddie's life and all that her short, too short, time on earth meant to her family here at Heather's blog, The Spohrs Are Multiplying (renamed Remember Maddie).
You can read about how to celebrate and honor Maddie's life by helping other babies through March of Dimes here at Amy's post, or here at Sarcastic Mom's post. If you feel moved to donate to March of Dimes in memory of Maddie, please click on the widget below. If you'd like to donate to a fund to help defray expenses for Heather and Mike, you may do so via PayPal, email address/account: formaddie@hotmomreviews.com.
If you want to join a team that will be walking for Maddie during the March of Dimes Walkathon on April 26, click here to see the list of teams in cities all around the country. Don't worry about not knowing anyone - your heart and soul are the only ticket you need to join up. If your city isn't represented, feel free to start a local team; be sure to email Sarcastic Mom so she can add your team to the list.
And if you cannot walk or donate, you can still spread the word. Share Maddie's life with someone - blog about this loss that has shaken the blogosphere. Tweet about it. Post about it. Email everyone in your contacts. Do something.
Then go hug tightly, so tightly, your kids. Call your Mom or Dad, your brother or sister. Find a way back into the life of that friend that meant so much to you way back when.
Mend a rift in a relationship; bridge a gap of time with a phone call.
Then tell those that you love simply this:
I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU.
Thanks for reading.
{I LOVE YOU}
HOT DEAL! Possible TRIPLE Coupons at Kroger 4/9-4/12!
Oh boy!! It pays to open my Google Reader!!
My friend Marcy @ Stretching a Buck has a whopper of a post up about TRIPLE coupon days at Kroger in Central Ohio (she's in the Columbus, OH) area.
Click here to read her post.
I've not heard/seen/read any confirmation on this being a widespread offer at all Kroger stores, but darn if it isn't worth a phone call to your local Kroger store or Kroger affiliate to see if they're participating as well!
Be sure to read the comment section in Marcy's post; many folks have already done some research on this and there's a good list of participating stores in the comments.
Keep Your Kids Believing! Capture the Easter Bunny @ Capture the Magic!
I first came across CaptureTheMagic.com during Christmas this past December. I stumbled across and ad showing how you could upload a picture of your Christmas tree or stockings and then digitally add a picture of Santa Claus. I clicked around and looked at all the creative ways other customers had created their own pictures and was hooked by this fun idea to keep the childhood magic alive.
My oldest is 7.5 years and she still believes in Santa, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny...but lately, she's been asking some very pointed and thoughtful questions about all of them. It's clear to me that I won't be able to hold out the ruse much longer.
But, I just might with the help of CaptureTheMagic.com; for $9.95 you get to customize your "Gotcha!" Easter Bunny photo and download it to your computer.
I see a fun *fun* family idea in this: I plan on having my daughter "help" me set up a trap for the Easter Bunny; I'll leave my digital camera "set up" nearby. Then I'll download and upload the finished photo. I can't wait to see her face -- and the faces of my two little boys as well!
CaptureTheMagic.com also offers an affiliate program of which I am a member. You should know that and you should also know that I joined as an affiliate last Christmas because I like and use this product myself. If you want to join as an affiliate yourself, check it out! They also offer a Charitable Causes option for their affiliate program which would be great for a church webpage.
I'll let you know how my CaptureTheMagic.com picture turns out and just how my kiddos react on Easter morning!
Hip Hip Hurray Giveaway Winner: [IN] Place Office Products
It's time to announce the winner of last week's Hip Hip Hurray! Giveaway for the brand new [IN] Place Office products from OfficeMax.
I loved all the creative and smart ways that everyone uses to stay organized day-to-day; thanks for sharing them! I hope you got a chance to read them; click here to read through the tips and hints for daily organization from all the entries.
Alas - there can be only *one* winner to this great prize, and that lucky reader is...
#38: Nelsby @ sierranelsby@xxxxx.com
Her tip (located at #37; her entry at #38 was a Tweet) had to do with avoiding the mess that occurs when you have deep desk drawers:
I bought a few of those small Rubbermaid desk organizers in several sizes (maybe 6-10" H and 4-6" W). They look like little boxes...but are done in an office style with shallow drawers . They actually look nice enough to keep on your desk. I use these extra "drawers" for all of my office supply-type things (pens, paper clips, highlighters, binder clips, white-out, etc.) This way, I know where all of things are located.
Thank you to everyone for entering and sharing your smart organizational ideas. Sierra, I'll be contacting you soon by email.
Now, does anyone have any smart ideas on how to find more time every day to get organized?? ;-)
Be sure to click back over later today; I have another great giveaway coming up this afternoon (meaning I haven't written it up yet; see my little comment about finding time above) that is a fantastic way to share a family dinner. I can't wait to share it with all of you.
As always, thanks for reading and subscribing to The New Frugal Mom; I *love* my readers!
I made it to Kroger on Monday, but not first thing after dropping my two oldest at school. Life, like so many of you fellow bloggers know, just got in the way of grand plan for the day.
I raced around the store in the afternoon (it's a Marketplace and is very, very, very big) as I tried to beat the clock so I could truck back to school for pick up time. Luckily, my little guy was well-behaved in the store, I made it back to school on time, and my grumpy three year old fell asleep on the way home.
Here's my Kroger trip, Monday, 4/6/09:
Just keeping it real, my friends, and hoping to give you a laugh at my expense. Life here with my three kids is hectic enough; add the beginning of spring sports and the approach of Easter weekend and I am one busy busy mom. ;-)
{Not pictured: ginormous pile of laundry on opposite kitchen counter waiting patiently to be folded.}
Onto the details!!
Spent: $110.94
Saved: $82.71, or 42%
A spendy trip for sure, but I am hosting Easter here and needed to grab a ham as well as lots of goodies to go with the meal. I still have another trip back to Kroger planned for later this week (Th or Fri) to grab fresh fruits and veggies.
Remember, if you're buying ham or turkey this month to go check out the $20 rebate on either when you buy $40 of Unilever products (and you can buy these over multiple trips in April). Full details on this rebate as well as a list of participating products can be found right here.
Coupons I used for my trip + current price of item before coupon; note that my Kroger offers unlimited doubled coupons and doubles coupons to a maximum doubled value of $1.00.
