Blessed Am I: Summer is Here

The button code is in the box below; feel free to use this button and link your own Blessed Am I post in the Mr. Linky box at the very end. Thanks!

</em>

Ok, so I will be the first to admit that I've been watching the busy month of May come to an end with a bit of worry and fear. Summer, my friends, is just around the corner, and that means all three of my blue-eyed cutie pies (rather than just my little guy) will be home all.day.long.

Do I love them all in that over-the-top way that only a mother can love her children? Oh yes I do.

What I don't love - especially when it comes to summer - is:

~ My oldest's son's habit of waking up bright and early every single morning; he's up before 6:30 am every darn day, winter or summer.

~ Late afternoon sibling squabbling; everyone gets the contagious grumpies right as I'm trying to get dinner together.

~ Hot days and sunburn; rainy days and boooored kids.

When I was a kid, summer meant freedom from routine. Now that I'm the mom, I see how important keeping a simple routine through the summer break is.

But for all my kvetching about the extra challenges that come with summer, I *am* looking forward to this one. My little guy has been potty trained for a long time, meaning no more worrying about having swim diapers for the pool. My daughter is an avid reader and has found several series of books she wants to check out of the library. And my oldest son is and always has been so self-directed that all I need to do to keep him busy is give him a pack of index cards ($0.44 at Target!), a pack of markers, and a stapler.

My kids have changed and grown so much this year and I know that this summer will be different and better because of that simple fact. They can each do more and what's best, they choose to do more things together.

Seeing them playing together and looking out for each other is my blessed moment for me this week; what's yours?

I hope you feel blessed in some way - small or great - this week. If you'd like to share a post about what's good in your life, feel free to add your post link to the Mr. Linky below.

Weekly Savings Roundup: A Kroger Kind of Week {Month}

It's Saturday and it's time to link up over at Money Saving Mom's Super Savings Saturday post. Do you have a great savings post you'd like to share this week? Go on over and join the gang!

Weekly Savings, May 25-31

No pictures this week; I've been so busy that I was happy just to get the groceries into the house and put away in some sort of order.

I was a Kroger-only kind of girl this week; I made two trips to Kroger for our groceries as well as for some extra goodies for a get-together.

Total Spent (both trips combined): $96.47
Total Saved (both trips combined): $66.09, or 40%

I've really been a Kroger-only shopper all month; May has been so terribly busy for us that I've not set foot in a CVS or a Walgreens since April. Instead, I've been grabbing the best deals I can find at Kroger and using up some stockpiled items (toothpaste, cereal, deodorant).

Although the deals at Kroger haven't been over-the-top crazy, I've still managed to save big on what I did buy. And when our family schedule gets busy, busy, busy, it's nice to be able to get what I need all at one store rather than try to race around town to several stores with one or more kids in tow.

Sometimes simplicity wins out over mega-saving.

I'm on target this week for my budget of $100/week but I still think I'm over for the month. A little quiet time this weekend with my calculator, receipts, and spreadsheets will either prove me right or wrong.

How'd you do this week?

Looking for this week's Kroger deals and coupon matchups? Click here for my printable Kroger Ad Matchup file; print it, grab your coupons, and go save some bucks!

Don't forget to link your best deals at Kroger to my weekly Let's Go Krogering! post. No deal is too small! Come and share, m'kay?!

My Frugal Journey: Beating Down the Debt

Two months ago, I sent off the last little bit to pay off our van several months early. It was a great feeling, clicking "Pay Bills" from my online banking portal and knowing that we were that much closer to our goal of being consumer debt free.

But let me assure you, we still have a loooong way to go. ;-)

Our biggest debt stems directly from taking two losses on two houses; although we moved for jobs with relocation packages, we didn't break even on our home sales after the laundry list of closing costs and fees. The first one was a bit of a surprise; the second was not. We knew we would take a hit on that home given the short amount of time we had lived there.

I don't regret either of those decisions; we took assumed risks to further our life goals and we'd do it again if it meant getting back to the heart of it all, SW Ohio. Here, we are surrounded by friends and family surround and our kids get to grow up as part of a large, extended clan.

Priceless.

Now that our van is paid off, I'm attacking the debt we accrued from those two losses on the houses. Included in that debt are also some big car repairs we made to our 1999 Taurus (can I say ouch?) and home repairs and improvements as well.

This month, I paid 4% toward the debt we owe; not huge, but definitely a start.

Because I want to keep my momentum on this, I plan on adding a little graphic to my sidebar. I'll update it monthly with our progress.

Our goal is to knock out the debt; then? Well, we'll see. Right now, I'm focused on the current goal and don't want to get sidetracked with pretty daydreams. We already invest for our retirement and for the kiddo's college funds so once we reach that happy debt-free place, we'll have choices available to us that we don't have now.

And that, my frugalista friends and readers, is what this whole frugal journey is about: living on less so you can do more.

Do you have a debt-busting success story? Inspire us! Share what you know in a comment below!

Summer Reading Programs for Kids with FREE Rewards!

I *love* reading and it makes my mommy heart happy to see my kids love for books growing each day.

With summer almost upon us, I thought I'd share with you the summer reading programs for kids that our school's librarian rounded up and sent home. Be sure to do some googling for your town or city to see if you can find any summer reading programs offered by local booksellers or businesses.

Your Public Library

This is the most natural place to start; our town's library offers a great summer reading program each year with smaller prizes as the kids reach reading milestones and a t-shirt when they reach their goal.

To find your closest local library, click here.

Half Price Books

The summer reading program at Half Price Books is called Feed Your Brain; kids twelve years old and younger who read fifteen minutes a day can earn a $3.00 Half Price Books shopping card. This is good EACH week from June 1 - July 31, meaning your child could theoretically earn NINE $3.00 cards if you do this program every week.

Here's the sweet part. The books at Half Price Books are very inexpensive, meaning your cutie pie can get a lot of bang for those $3.00! Be sure to check the clearance racks first and ask your local Half Price Books store staff which weeks they'll be having big sale events this summer.

Click here to get all the details on the Feed Your Brain program.

Barnes & Noble

This program is for grades 1-6 and offers (1) FREE book from a *selection* of titles offered by Barnes & Noble (you have to pick a free book from the list they offer rather than from the whole store) when you child reads (8) books. There's a reading journal page you can print to log your child's books as they finish them.

This program runs from May 27 - September 7; click here to get the details on this program. There is a limit of (1) free book per child.

Borders/Waldenbooks

This reading program also targets younger readers; kids aged twelve and under can participate. When your child reads (8) books, they can purchase one of the items listed on the Border's Reading Challenge worksheet for 50% off (final cost of item will be $4.99).

This program runs from May 26 - August 31; click here for the details and to print the worksheet.

Montgomery Cyclery {Cincinnati locals!}

For my readers who live in the greater Cincy area, Montgomery Cyclery offers a Books for Bikes program/contest in the summer for children grades 1-8. For every book your child reads beginning May 26, you can fill out a form (available in-store or filled out online) for an entry into a weekly contest for bike locks, helmets, and accessories beginning July. The grand prizes, brand new bikes, will be drawn Labor day weekend; this program ends September 6.

I *love* that my kiddos can earn FREE rewards for reading!

Do you know of any other great summer reading programs, either national or local, that offer freebies or rewards for children? Share what you know in a comment below! Thanks!

Hip Hip Hurray Giveaway Winner: Enough Already! and $10 Kroger GC!

Thank you to all who entered last week's giveaway for Peter Walsh's new book and a $10 gift card to Kroger.

From reading through all the comments, it sounds like we're all battling the paper clutter monster at our respective homes. Wasn't all this online life and computerized everything supposed to eliminate paperwork? ;-)

I wish I had some advice for you paperwork warriors; I try to go through the kids school papers and sort them to the recycling in every day. I spend at least one morning a month sipping coffee with one hand and feeding the paper shredder with the other. But even with my constant vigilance, papers still pile up, waiting to be filed safely away when I have free time {insert hysterical laughter here}.

On to the winner!

#21: Kristin, who writes Tales from the Food Stamp Office

Congrats, Kristin! I'll be leaving a comment soon at your blog; please email me if you see this post.

To all who entered, and to ALL my readers, THANK YOU for hanging in through the maniacal merry month of May with me. I am a bit behind on posting and apologize for my tardiness; real life is coming at me from all directions and I've hardly had a moment to catch my breath. I appreciate each and every one of my readers and am so grateful for all of your kind comments.

I'll be back later (much later) tonight to get caught up here; until then, stay cool in this heat...unless you find some smokin' hot deals!!

This week's Kroger Ad Matchup (May 26-May 31) will be live later this morning and linked here!

The No Picture Edition of LGK!

I took advantage of the holiday yesterday to go Krogering with my daughter who's normally in school when I make my Kroger trip. It was nice to spend some time alone with just her and, as she gets ready to turn eight this summer, it's a good feeling to see her comparing prices in the store while we shop. I think it's important as parents to teach our kids to be savvy about money as soon as they're old enough to understand the difference between a quarter and a dime.

We were on our way to the pool right after I got home with our groceries, so no picture this week of my trip. I also took advantage of the extra day on last week's ad to grab some more of last week's deals, most notably the Smart Balance butter sticks ($0.99 with coupon) and Kraft Barbeque Sauce (FREE with doubled coupon).

My totals:

Spent: $64.51
Saved: $51.31 or 44%

My weekly Monday trips to Kroger have been pretty good this month, savings-wise, but I've also had several "drop-in" trips to Kroger this month as well. We've had SO many events and get-togethers and I've grabbed what we needed for those, trying to use whatever coupons I find in-store as well as the current sale to keep my totals low.

My point? I'm pretty sure I'm over my $400 target budget by a bit; I need to sit down with my receipts and get caught up on paperwork. And that's ok; there are some months on our yearly calendar that just require a bit more spending on groceries and May is most definitely one of them.

How did you do at Kroger this week? Link your deal post below and share what you know!

Menu Plan Monday: Week of May 25

It's Memorial Day today and I want to take a moment to thank all those who have served our nation in the Armed Forces and to thank all of the families who are left behind while their loved one is defending our freedoms. You are all heroes.

For most of May, I've cooked doubled meal plans every other week, freezing the doubled main dish and serving it up again the following week. It's been very successful for me and I'm sure I'll use this meal planning strategy again. This week, however, given the holiday as well as several events on the calendar, I'm cooking a simple mean plan that I *won't* be doubling.

Monday

Grillin' Out! We're trying Yummy Honey Chicken Kabobs and I'll throw some extra chicken on the grill that I can freeze for later in the week.

Tuesday

Copycat LaRosa's Pizza and salad...and birthday cake for my oldest son!

Wednesday

Butter Beef over egg noodles + steamed veggies

Thursday

Bacon Wrapped Mexican Hot Dogs {we've developed a serious craving for this recipe} with salad and veggie sticks

Friday

Restaurant Style Chicken Nachos {I'll use some of the extra grilled chicken from Monday for this recipe} with fresh fruit

Saturday

Free Day!

Sunday

Parmesan Chicken with Pasta Pomodoro

Hip Hip Hurray Giveaway: Enough Already! by Peter Walsh and a $10 Gift Card to Kroger {and...Link YOUR Giveaway!}

At the beginning of April, I hosted a giveaway here for the new [IN]PLACE System organizational product designed by Peter Walsh for OfficeMax. Not too long after I shipped that prize, I received a copy of Peter Walsh's new book, Enough Already!

I love it when I get unexpected goodies in my mailbox that I can share with my readers! Let me just give a *big* THANKS to OfficeMax and to Peter Walsh for reaching out to us bloggers; much appreciated!

This newest book from Peter Walsh, host of TLC's Clean Sweep goes beyond tackling the physical clutter that plagues our modern lives to addressing how that clutter affects us in our personal lives and relationships. The chapters cover topics like relationships, work, family, money, health, and well-being, and there are short quizzes and worksheets interspersed in the book to help you in identifying your needs-work areas and also to help you define your vision for the life you want.

Now, lest you think that I'm giving this book away because I don't need it, let me just be the first to stand up and say that I'm in the trenches everyday, fighting the clutter battle. One thing I do have on my side is the fact that my husband and I have moved many, many times in our marriage for the military and for career reasons (six moves in eleven years, to be exact).

Moving is the supreme clutter-buster - when you have to pack and unpack your stuff again and again...and again...you learn what matters and what doesn't doesn't and you learn exactly where the closest Goodwill drop off site is, too!

But even though I am more than willing to empty a closet or drawer and bag up what we're not using and pass it along in this world, I still deal with the daily clutter of life with three kids, two of whom are in grade school and bring home papers every day. Add to that the clutter of household paperwork, bills, and receipts and I am forever a week month behind on getting my files updated and my receipts logged. Thank goodness for online banking!

With spring in full swing, I know many of you out there are cleaning out your own closets, garages, and drawers, getting ready for weekend garage sales. And with the summer coming (and the end-of-the-school-year-insanity winding down), I know I'm looking forward to spending some time this summer focused on ways I can be more organized before the new school year begins. My hope is that this book will be of help to one of my loyal readers.

Onto the giveaway!

One lucky reader will win a brand-spanking new copy of Enough Already! by Peter Walsh and a $10 Kroger gift card!

How to enter:

Leave a comment sharing the one area of your life/home where you fight the clutter battle and how you've tried to tame the clutter beast. If you've got a useful clutter-busting tip, you can share that, too!

You can earn an additional (3) chances to win as well.

1. Tweet about this giveaway then come back here and leave me a separate comment to let me know you tweeted.

2. Post about this giveaway at your blog with a link both to this post; come back and leave the URL of your post in a separate comment.

This giveaway will end on Tuesday, May 26, at 10:00 pm EST . I will announce the winner (selected by Random.org) on Wednesday, May 27, 2009.

Good luck!

I'll be going Krogering this morning; I'll revise this post and share my finds with you by the end of the day.

*Revised 5/19/09, 9:34 pm EST*

I found some great deals at Kroger this morning - want to see?

Spent: $66.15
Saved: $48.05, or 42%

I was worried that the gentleman in line behind me might be annoyed by my stack of coupons; he had only a few items to purchase. But as one of my *fave* cashiers at my Kroger announced my final total, he looked at me and said, "Wow."

It's not an impossible task, this couponing thing we frugalistas do each week; I wish there was a way to explain all of it in a thirty second conversation, but there's not. So instead I replied to him, "Planning. It's all about the planning."

If you're new to couponing, that's the best piece of advice I can give you. Taking the time to plan your menu then plan your shopping each week will payoff with more savings in your pocket week after week. Pretty soon, you'll look back on your old shopping ways and sigh, wondering how much money you wasted before you discovered how to stockpile, ad match, and SAVE.

Here's a breakdown of the coupons I used today; the locations (printable, Sunday insert, etc) of these coupons can be found here in my weekly Kroger Ad Matchup (Cincy Region), a printable GoogleDoc.

:: $1.00/2 Kool-Aid or CountryTime printable available from my Coupons.com widget

:: $1.00/1 Kraft Mayo Printable printable available in my Coupons.com widget

:: $1.00/1 Kraft Miracle Whip printable available in my Coupons.com widget

:: $1.00/1 Smart Balance 50/50 Butter Blend Sticks

:: $0.75/2 Kroger Light Yogurt, Kroger mailer coupon

:: $1.00/1 Kellogg's Mini Wheats, Vocalpoint mailer coupon

:: $2.00/1 Sara Lee Bread or Bun when you buy (2) Lay's Chips or Fritos, tearpad coupon on chip display

:: $1.00/1 Quaker Quakes or Rice Snacks, SS 03/29

:: FREE Oscar Mayer Deli Sandwich, promo coupon I received a while back

:: $0.55/1 Bumblebee Tuna, blinkie near product

:: $0.75/2 Old El Pasa Taco Shells, Kroger mailer coupon

:: $1.00/1 Fresh Express Salad, Kroger mailer coupon

:: $1.00/1 Wholly Guacamole, SS 05/17

Also worth noting: this week's ad at Kroger runs through *Monday* May 25; the new ad will begin *Tuesday* May 26.

Already done your Krogering this week? Share your post about how much you saved in the Mr. Linky below!

**As always, please add a link back to my Let's Go Krogering! post in your Krogering post and be sure that you add your post's permalink to the Mr. Linky so everyone else can find your deals (rather than just linking back to your blog's homepage). Need help doing this? Email me and I'll walk you through it!**

Menu Plan Monday: Week of May 18 (Double Duty Dinners, Week 2)

It's *technically* still Monday and I'm finally getting a free moment to get my meal plan for the week posted. Luckily, my plan last week to double up my dinners and freeze the extras worked once again. I think I'm onto something here...!

Items that I doubled last week and froze are *bolded*.

Monday

Leftover cleanout - we had a bunch of little things in the fridge; easy!

Tuesday

Beef Enchiladas (using shredded pot roast from last week)

Wednesday

Cincinnati Chili + Coneys (translation: chilidogs, Cincy-style) and salad

Thursday

Pulled Pork Sandwiches + corn on the cob + french fries

Friday

Grilled Burgers + Brats and Summer Potato Salad

Saturday

Free night - busy weekend ahead

Sunday

Kids Pick - I'm going to let my kiddos pick dinner for the night; my guess is that they'll opt for hot dogs and mac-n-cheese with big bowls of strawberries on the side.

New to meal planning? Visit the links at Menu Plan Monday for inspiration!

Ready to tackle more than a doubled up menu plan? Find a kitchen buddy and visit my pals Cortney and Tricia at Once a Month Mom; they'll show you how to cook a whole *month* of meals in one day!

Kroger Ad Matchup (Cincinnati Region): May 18 - May 24, 2009

Here's this week's Kroger Ad Matchups for the Cincinnati region in my usual printer-friendly format, a GoogleDoc. You can view the deals and matchups right here:

This link will also be updated in my sidebar so you can find this week's deals easily if you're doing your shopping later in the week.

With Kroger running another 10 for $10 sale, there are several good freebies with coupons at Kroger this week. I've noted those in my ad matchup.

Apologies for the late posting on this weekly feature; it seems that Mondays in the fine and busy month of May are filled with unexpected events. Today, our older dog (he's almost 14) needed to see the vet. He's fine, but for a while this morning I was quite worried about him; you can read more on my thoughts about that here at my personal blog.

Don't forget to drop by on Tuesday for my weekly linkyfest, Let's Go Krogering!. I've yet to go Krogering with all the hullaballoo around here but I plan to post this as usual early tomorrow morning and then revise it later in the day with my Krogering details. Feel free to link your own Let's Go Krogering! post full of deals as well!

Blessed Am I: Rainy Days

The button code is in the box below; feel free to use this button and link your own Blessed Am I post in the Mr. Linky box at the very end. Thanks!

</em>

May is one of *those* months for our family - a month loaded with spring sports, school events, holidays, and family parties. I try to avoid making eye contact with the calendar on the front of our refrigerator; it's so jam packed with scribbled notes, appointments, and plans that it makes my heart skip a beat with anxiety at how we'll get it all done this month.

May is also a rainy month here in SW Ohio. While I love to see a blue sky lit by a bright sun on a spring day, I've enjoyed the rainy days we've had lately because as the rain falls, games and practices are cancelled. Suddenly, what was an uber-busy day becomes more relaxed and less hurried.

Try as we might to keep life from getting frantic and over-scheduled with activities (and we really do limit what our kids do), having three kids close in age keeps us busy here. And it seems that just when I get pushed to my limit, God steps in and gives me a rainy day or a snow day or just a sick day, a day that stops the ever-ticking clock and gives us all a chance to kick back and enjoy each other's company.

Until they start their typical sibling squabbling...but that's a post for another day!

I hope you feel blessed in some way - small or great - this week. If you'd like to share a post about what's good in your life, feel free to add your post link to the Mr. Linky below.

Click here for a printable version of this week's (05/11-05/17) Kroger Ad Matchup with current coupons (Cincy Region).

Let's Go Krogering! {The Thank Goodness for RX Transfer Coupons Edition!}

I feel like a broken record saying this, but it's another week of a ho-hum sale at Kroger. While there are some opportunities to stock up on some great Kroger brand items during this week's sale (like Kroger Peanut Butter for $0.99 ea), the rest of this week's sale is just ok.

Here's my trip to Kroger on Monday, 05/11/09:

Spent: $87.47

Saved: $70.80, or 44%

A big chunk of my savings was a $20.00 Rx transfer coupon for Kroger (expires 06/06/09) that I discovered in the weekly Red Plum mailer about two weeks ago. You might also receive that mailer each week if you live in the greater Cincinnati area; it's usually just a simple two-page deal with oodles of extra junk mail crammed inside - the sort of thing I used to automatically dump right into my recycling bin.

I'm here to tell you - don't dump that junk mail!

Take a minute to flip through some of the *junk* that arrives each day in your mailbox because every once in a while you might just discover a good coupon that makes those extra seconds worth it.

Along with the Rx transfer coupon, I used these coupons as well:

:: $2.00/1 Sara Lee Bread or Buns wyb (2) Lays Chips or Fritos
(Found on tearpad by chips; Sara Lee Buns priced at $2.00 ea so this coupon made them FREE!)

:: $0.55/1 Tyson Boxed Chicken, SS 05/10

:: $0.55/1 Pet Pride Dog Biscuits, Kroger My Magazine mailed coupon

:: $1.00/1 International Delight Coffee Creamer printable here

:: $1.00/1 Activia 4 pk, Kroger My Magazine mailed coupon

:: (2) $0.75/1 Breyer's Ice Cream, Unilever Insert ("Making Life Better") 04/05

:: $0.35/5 Kroger Yogurts, Kroger My Magazine mailed coupon

:: Buy1Get1FREE Sobe Lifewater, Kroger catalina

:: $1.00/2 Oscar Mayer Deli Creations, blinkie found near chips

:: $0.55/1 BumbleBee Tuna Packets, blinkie found near product

(These are now priced at $1.28 ea; if your Kroger doubles, final price = $0.28 ea!)

:: $1.00/1 Fresh Express Salad, Kroger My Magazine mailed coupon

You can see I used a lot of mailed coupons, blinkies, and catalinas; there just wasn't much in the ad that matched up to Sunday insert coupons that I needed or wanted.

Still, I'm happy overall with my savings for this week, especially since my grocery list included enough meat to cook my doubled up meal plan for this week. Next week, I shouldn't need too much at Kroger for our nightly dinners since I'll be freezing the doubled dinners this week.

How'd you do at your Kroger or Kroger-affiliated store this week? Share your success and your deals - they might help another reader!

Feel free to link your Kroger deal post in the Mr. Linky below. Don't have a blog but just know about a fantastic unadvertised deal at Kroger this week? Leave a comment and share what you know! Thanks!

**As always, please add a link back to my Let's Go Krogering! post in your Krogering post and be sure that you add your post's permalink to the Mr. Linky so everyone else can find your deals (rather than just linking back to your blog's homepage). Need help doing this? Email me and I'll walk you through it!**

Menu Plan Monday: Week of May 11 AND May 18

My menu planning for the last two weeks really worked well for me. Two weeks ago, I posted my menu plan where I doubled up the main dishes and froze the extras. Then last week, my menu plan used those extras for the basis of our dinners.

This idea worked so well for me that I plan on doing it again this week. May is one of our busiest months so any time I can save in the kitchen makes a huge difference to the flow of my day.

Here's what I'm cooking this week; the items I'm cooking in doubled quantities are bolded.

Monday

Bacon Wrapped Mexican Hot Dogs, french fries, salad, fresh fruit

Tuesday

Cincinnati Chili (I've linked a recipe but I'll probably just use the Gold Star Spice Packet rather than make it from scratch) with garlic bread and salad

Wednesday

Slow Cooker BBQ Pork for Sandwiches with mac and cheese and steamed veggies

Thursday

Sausage and Mushroom Calzones (I'll likely make the dough in my bread machine) with salad and fresh fruit

Friday

Grilled Hamburgers and Brats with Italian Confetti Pasta Salad and fresh fruit

Saturday

Free Night!
(Two ball games + One Great Strides for CF Walk = One very tired mom!)

Sunday

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast with egg noodles and steamed veggies

Hopefully all of my doubled dinners will turn out great and I'll have little planning to do next week!

Are you looking to save time? Make a menu plan each week - if you need help, visit the mega menu plan link up, Menu Plan Monday, over at Orgjunkie.com.

And if you're ready to tackle cooking a whole month of meals at a time, visit Once A Month Mom; Tricia and Cortney will walk you through it step-by-step! Those girls can cook!

Hip Hip Hurray Giveaway: (2) $25 KROGER Gift Cards!

It's finally Wednesday and I am SO thrilled to finally share this great giveaway with all of you!

If you've been reading this blog for any a while, you might have noticed just how deeply I *love* this store:

Not only do I post the Cincinnati Region Kroger sale ad + coupon matchup as a printer-friendly Google Doc each week, I also host a weekly linkup called Let's Go Krogering! for you to showcase your best deals and fabulously frugal finds at your Kroger or Kroger-affiliated grocery store each week.

Kroger just *rocks* IMHO, and they're always bringing their A-game to everything they do. This includes going green, particularly by encouraging their customers to switch to reusable shopping bags. Kroger will give you a $0.03 credit on your shopping order for each reusable bag you have for your goodies.

As part of a more than month long celebration of Earth Day, Kroger is running a Reusable Shopping Bag Contest through May 15th.

Not only can you enter your own reusable bag design in the contest (Kroger will award one lucky designer a $1,000 Kroger gift card and the chance for their bag design to be sold in stores), your Kroger Card will be credited with an ecoupon for a FREE reusable bag in-store.

And, if you just LOVE your bag design, you can order it on Cafepress.com - fun!

It's worth mentioning that many of the stores under the Kroger banner are participating in this contest - check the dropdown menu in the top right corner of the site to see if your Kroger-affiliated/owned grocery store is participating.

Here's my design:

You're applauding? {blushing} Gee, thanks; I like it, too!
*Psst! You can vote for my bag design right here!*

Click here to start designing your own reusable shopping bag.

Onto the giveaway!

I've been graciously given (2) $25 Kroger Gift Cards to giveaway! There will be (2) lucky winners here at The New Frugal Mom; each winner will receive (1) $25 Kroger Gift Card.

To enter, leave me a comment about one way you and your family are trying to live greener. It can be something small like embracing curbside recycling or switching to fluorescent bulbs. Or it can be something bigger like installing solar panels on your roof or planting a huge vegetable garden.

Just share in a comment one way that you're consciously changing to greener living habits - every little bit matters and your ideas might inspire someone else!

Want more entries? Here's how to get (3) more:

1. Tweet about this giveaway then come back here and leave me a comment to let me know you tweeted.

2. Post about this giveaway at your blog with a link back to this post; come back and leave the URL of your post in a comment.

3. Subscribe to my RSS feed by reader or email updates and leave a comment to let me know you're a new subscriber; you can also drop me a comment to let me know if you're already a subscriber for this extra entry.

Remember, you MUST leave me some way to find you online (by email or by your Twitter handle) if you don't have a blog. Entries with no contact information or means of contacting you online will be disqualified.

This giveaway will end on Sunday, May 10, 2009, at 10:00 pm EST. I will announce the winner (selected by Random.org) on Monday, May 11, 2009.

Good luck!
