Menu Plan Monday | Week 5 of my 5 Week Menu Plan

I plan my family's dinners in five week blocks to maximize my savings at the grocery store and minimize my stress at dinner time. You can read more about my strategy here in my Q&A post here.

Last week was Week 4 of my menu plan and this week I've added two things:

Here's what my 5 Week Menu Plan looks like:

Week 1 (01/04-01/10)

Monday: BBQ Pork Ribs, Mashed Potatoes, Steamed Veggies, Salad
Cooked the ribs on low all day and they were fork tender. Would be a great way to make easy shredded pork for BBQ pork sandwiches. Mashed potatoes came from Christmas leftovers in my freezer - yum! I had some Steamfresh bagged corn I made on the side with this as well as our ever-present caesar salad for my oldest son.

Tuesday: Taco Night (make double amount of taco meat; freeze extra)
Tacos are a weekly feature for us; the kids eat tacos & veggies (carrots, salad) while Knute and I have big taco salads. This is an easy meal to make double the amount of taco meat to freeze for dinner later in the month.

Wednesday: Homemade Chicken Nuggets, Crockpot Mac & Cheese, Salad
We like chicken nuggets but try to stay away from the overly-processed stuff if we can. These were easy and tasty. The big winner on this meal was the slow cooker mac and cheese - seriously yummy and full of rich flavors.

Thursday: Breakfast for dinner - pancakes, eggs, sausage, fruit
Easy dinner on what ended up being a snow day off for my oldest two. Everyone at my house LOVES breakfast for dinner and it's cost effective, too.

Friday: Grilled Cheese, Soup, Salad
Comfort food that's light but filling. I made the grilled cheese with homemade bread using this bread machine recipe.

Saturday: Free night!
Free nights are a great way to give yourself a breather on cooking dinner every night of the week. We usually clean out the leftovers or grab pizza -- with a coupon, of course!

Sunday: Crockpot Roast Beef, Buttered Egg Noodles, Steamed Veggies
Hands down, this is one of my kids FAVE dinners. They would lick the plate if I let them, the gravy is THAT good. Makes great leftovers for beef sandwiches or enchiladas.

Week 2: 01/11-01/17
Monday: Italian Beef Sandwiches (use leftover beef from 01/10), Spaghetti & Bean Casserole (family recipe), Salad
My kids are always happy to have roast beef for a second night in a row - my littlest ate the final leftovers for lunch for two days straight.  The Italian Beef Sandwiches are really for my hubs and I; we load them up with banana peppers, caesar dressing, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and sauteed onions, peppers, and mushrooms.  YUM!!

Tuesday: Crockpot Spaghetti & Meatballs (make double; freeze extras; I use jarred sauce)
Easy meal to double and just a great dinner on a cold night.  I make bread machine bread to go with this as well.

Wednesday: Savory Chicken & Dumplings, Salad
This is my personal fave cold weather dinner; my little guy refers to this as "treasure soup" because he likes picking out all the carrots and celery.  Delish!
Thursday: Taco Night (use extra from freezer)
Everyone's happy on taco night!

Friday: Breakfast for dinner - Strawberry Waffles, bacon, eggs,
The waffles were light but filling; we topped them with thawed frozen strawberries.  A nice treat!

Saturday: Sesame Salmon (I bought some on clearance from MarketDay, a fundraiser at my children's school), Wild Rice, Steamed Veggies
This dinner is more for me and Knute than for the kids although we do have a "one bite" rule; they are surprised sometimes when they discover they really like something "weird".   I made a light soy/sesame sauce on the side for the Salmon - yum!

Sunday: Free Night!

Week 3: 01/18-01/24
Monday: Meatball Subs (use extras from freezer), Crockpot Mac&Cheese, Salad
My son says this is the BEST mac & cheese EVER. It is mighty good!

Tuesday: Homemade Pizza
Easy dinner; I use whatever toppings I have on hand.

Wednesday: Pork Ribs with Pineapple Salsa over Rice
I didn't make this; we had a leftover night this week. I'll try it another week.

Thursday: Grilled Chicken over Salad with Black Bean & Corn Salsa, Cornbread Muffins
This is a go-to dinner for me, winter or summer. I love the fresh flavors.

Friday: Breakfast for dinner - French toast, Eggs, Ham, Fruit
Always a great dinner for my gang!

Saturday: Cincinnati Chili, Salad, Fruit
I use the Gold Star spice packet when I make this - easier if you have just a little bit of time to set it up before it simmers all afternoon.

Sunday: Free night!

Week 4: 01/25-01/31
Monday: Crockpot Chicken Cacciatore, Salad
So easy, so good! Thumbs up on this recipe!

Tuesday: Taco night
Always popular!

Wednesday: Meatloaf, Green Bean Casserole, Mashed Potatoes
I've made a version of this recipe before. Everyone liked it again and it makes great meatloaf sandwiches the next day -- if you have any left!

Thursday: Chicken Enchiladas> with Black Bean & Corn Salsa
My 8 yr old daughter has fallen in love with these enchiladas. Very yummy!

Friday: Grilled Cheese, Soup, Salad
Quick and easy comfort food.

Saturday: Free night!

Sunday: Glazed Ham, Pasta Salad, Sweet Corn
Mmmmmmm! Plus, I've got lots of leftover ham for next week.

Week 5: 02/01-02/07
Monday: Crockpot Cheesy Ham & Potato Casserole, Steamed Broccoli
Tuesday: Brats with Peppers & Onions, Kraut, French Fries, Salad
Wednesday: Taco night
Thursday: Free night
Friday: Breakfast for dinner - Pancakes, Eggs, Sausage
Saturday: Ham & Bean Soup, Homemade Bread, Salad
Sunday: Roast Pork with Cranberry, Wild Rice, 3 Bean Salad

    Your menu plans sound delicious. I am making a crock pot roast this week, too, because it's a family favorite.
