Walgreens | Smoking Hot Deals this Week + Mid Week Ad!

The deals this week at Walgreens are SUPER HOT! Seriously, you need to clip your coupons and just.go.already!

This is one of those rare weeks at Walgreens where there are several items that are FREE after Register Rewards (many of which have current coupons available for them as well, meaning OVERAGE for you - woot!). There's also a mid-week ad that began today with even more deals.

Here's the links you need to find all the current matchups for the deals at Walgreens this week. Thanks to Mercedes at Common Sense with Money for compiling all of these!

:: Walgreens Weekly Ad, 3/28-4/3

:: Walgreens Mid-Week Ad, 3/31-4/3

:: Scrubbing Bubbles RR deal + coupon

:: Velveeta Cups: 4/$0.50 after RR + coupons!

I made my first trip to Walgreens last night, all by myself (no kiddos!) since I was planning on grabbing some goodies for their Easter baskets. I have to admit, I entered the store a bit ready to be disappointed - on weeks like this with so many freebies, the items tend to fly off the shelves.

Well, peeps, THAT did not happen! I walked out of Walgreens on a cloud of coupon happiness because EVERYTHING was in stock! WOOT!

I'm not sharing pictures because while my kiddos still believe in the Easter Bunny, they are also fairly tech savvy (even my 4 year old) and I sometimes find them looking at my Blogger dashboard because they (as they tell me), "like seeing you on the computer, Mommy!"

But here's the breakdown on what I spent/saved yesterday:

Started with $14RRs
Over (3) transactions, spent: $6.15 cash out of pocket
Over (3) transactions, saved: $66.16
Remaining new RRs earned: $17.00 RRs

The best part? Getting what I needed for their Easter baskets for next to nothing!

I'll likely make one last trip to Walgreens this week to grab a few more goodies (FREE after RR vitamins, super cheap Chinet plates for Easter, etc).

What are you waiting for? Go visit the links above and see all you can get for Fuh-REE this week and then head to your nearest Walgreens!

Love you all!

Kroger My Magazine Coupons | Question & Answers

Recently, reader Amanda C. emailed me with a question about the Kroger My Magazine coupons.

I love the “Let’s go Krogering” you do each week!!! Where do you find the Kroger My Magazine coupons? I have been shopping at Kroger more often & would love to make the most of my shopping trips.

I didn't know the official answer off the top of my head so I contacted one of the PR representatives for Kroger with whom I've worked in the past. She took Amanda's question to her contacts at Kroger corporate and this is the answer she emailed me:

Kroger has about 40 "themed events" that they publicize through My Magazine on an annual basis. Shoppers who have made purchases in similar product categories are queued up to receive similarly-themed My Magazines based on those previous purchases. In other words, distribution is linked to Kroger Plus Card activity and isn't something that is available for sign up.

I know that I've received more and more of these My Magazine mailers as I've become a savvier couponer at Kroger. Since I primarily shop the sale events with coupons, I assume that my shopping activity has been the primary factor in that increase.

Thanks to Amanda for the question and to the great PR representative (holla, L!) for her help in getting an answer!

Do you receive these mailers? Have you seen an increase in how many you receive as you shop the sales with coupons more and more?

Update | Issue with Images on Blogger

Just a quick note: I've noticed that some of my uploaded images are not appearing on my site. Along with that, it took me several attempts to upload new images earlier this morning for some posts scheduled later this week.

This looks to be an issue localized to Blogger users who are uploading directly to Blogger's servers. I'm hoping that the fine folks at Google will get this fixed soon.

Sorry for the crazy looking site today! ;-)

Menu Plan Monday | Easy Week for Easter

I plan my family's dinners in five week blocks to maximize my savings at the grocery store and minimize my stress at dinner time. You can read more about my strategy here in my Q&A post here.

I also answered several more questions about how I plan my big ol' menus and how I shop for them.  For more Q&A (because you're just dying to know, right?), click here.

**************************************
This week features Easter dinner on Sunday here at our home. I've not listed all the different sides we'll have to go with our ham mostly because my exteneded family will be bringing side dishes and goodies to help make the feast complete. I'm a big believer in farming out the work when it comes to holiday meals!

Because it is Easter this weekend, I'll be making easy meals this week so I can focus on what really matters. ;-)

Week 2 (March 29 - April 4, 2010)

Monday: Chili Lime Chicken, Corn, Quesadillas

Tuesday: Taco Night!

Wednesday: Cheesy Ham & Potato Soup, Salad

Thursday: Leftover Cleanout!

Friday: Free night!

Saturday: Breakfast for dinner: Eggs, Waffles, Fruit

Sunday: Happy Easter! Easter Dinner here with Ham & all the fixings!

What I Saved at the Stores | Week 12 of 2010

Each Saturday, I detail what I spent and saved at the stores; this weekly post is my way of keeping myself on track for my weekly budget goals in 2010.

I hope that by sharing what I saved, you'll be inspired to keep couponing week in and week out.  Over time, your stockpile of high-use items for your family will grow and your total weekly bill will keep coming down, down, down!

What I Saved at the Stores: Week 12 (March 22-28)

Kroger (03/22)

Spent: $32.72
Saved: $110.53 (77%)

To see the full breakdown of the coupons I used and to read the links of what other bloggers saved at their Kroger this week, read my weekly Let's Go Krogering! post.

Aldi (03/22)
(Eggs were still $0.59/doz and milk was still $1.29/gal! WOOT!)

Spent: $23.48
Saved: $0.00

Walgreens (03/25)
(Great RR deal this month on Kotex/Cottonelle products!)

Spent: $7.75 oop + $3.00 RRs
Saved: $8.00 (51%)
Earned: $5.00 RRs

Aldi (3/26)
(Needed a few things for the weekend; no picture.)

Spent: $12.27
Saved: $0.00

--------++++++++++++--------

Weekly Totals
Spent:
$76.22

Saved: $118.53 (61%)

My weekly goal for my grocery/household budget is $80/week. I'm pleased that during the past four weeks, I've come in just about on budget.  I've spent $322.27, about $2 above my target budget.  I've saved $436.16 which is 58% of my total grocery/household/dog food bill for the month.

Since the March to Savings promotion that started Monday, 3/15, at Kroger ends on Sunday, 3/28, I'll likely spend a portion of next week's budget on grabbing a few last stockpile deals before the sale is over.  Looking at next week's sale at Kroger, there are lots of good matchups (see some here) as well so I'll still make my usual Monday morning trip for the weekly deals.

If you're new to the fabulous world of keeping more of your hard earned money in your pockets by strategic couponing and drugstore shopping, I encourage you to read these posts to help you get started.

Menu Plan Monday | My New 5 Week Menu Plan {Includes Recipe Links}

It's time once again for a new 5 Week Menu Plan!

If you've followed this blog and my big, multi-week, menu plans, you've likely noticed that I repeat several recipes each menu plan. There's a few good reasons for that. ;-)

As much as I like to try new recipes, my criteria for picking recipes for our dinners are:

1. The majority of the five people in my family like it.
Notice I say majority; you can't please all the people all the time and meal planning is no exception. There are some meals that I make that one or another of my three kids isn't thrilled about eating and that's ok. We try to get them to try a bite but they know that Mom won't be fixing them a second dinner and their dessert option disappears if they choose to get down without eating a full dinner. I'm an old school kind of mom! ;-)

2. Ease of preparation.
I love French Onion Soup and I love making it from scratch but can I tell you something, peeps? It's been years since I made this soup at home because I simply don't have the time to spare in the kitchen. The recipes I pick for my menu plans are ones that I know I can throw together quickly (or even double the recipe and freeze the extras); if they are new recipes that I'm trying, the directions lead me to believe they'll be easy, too.

3. Cost of ingredients.
Just as I really do love more complex cooking a la Julia Child (which is why I don't mind hosting family events & holidays), I also like more expensive and fancier ingredients. My budget, however, does not have room for expensive cuts of meat, seafood, or gourmet ingredients. And guess what? That's ok, too! I'm in a season of my life where I'm raising a family and my job as Head Chef is to keep them happily fed with nutritious food without breaking the bank.

So with all that being said, I've got another 5 Week Menu Plan below filled with simple meals made with basic ingredients that, meals that meet my three criteria above. I hope you find my obsessive overplanning attention to detail useful in your menu planning!

Hip Hip Hurray Giveaway | $50 Goby.com "Create Your Own Adventure" Gift Card! (Ends 03/26)

This week's giveaway is a day late in posting - apologies! I spent a good chunk of time outdoors yesterday because Spring is HERE!

With the start of Spring, I - like many of you reading this - am looking for fun things to do outdoors with my hubs and kids. Whether it's parks, events, or destinations, we really enjoy getting out and about once winter is over but we - like you - don't have unlimited funding for fun. The cheaper, the better!

Today's giveaway is right in line with finding frugal fun for your family (say that five times fast - whew!).

From their site:

Goby (GO-be) is a new search engine that's all about finding fun ways to spend your free time, from a weekend to a week off.

When you visit Goby for the first time, this is what you'll see:

You can search your city (or any city if you're planning a trip) for destinations, events, family friendly, restaurants, outdoor, even offbeat places to visit. Goby covers all 50 states and has a total of 200 categories of events/destinations to search. The search engine is easy to use (I tried it and found a ton of stuff for the greater Cincy area, all well sorted into easy to navigate labels) and you can also share your finds on Facebook with your friends and family as you can connect by your Facebook account to Goby.

I know many of you out there reading this blog not just because you want to save money in your day-to-day life but because you *need* to save money to make your family's budget work. I'm happy to share this giveaway with you because I'm hoping it will help you plan a little *fun* for your family without breaking the bank!

Onto the giveaway!

I've been graciously given (1) $50 "Create Your Own Adventure" Gift Card from Goby.com to give away to one lucky winner!

How to enter:

Visit Goby and check out your city (or a place you'd like to visit - whatever floats your boat), then come back here and post a comment below answering, “What type of adventures you found on Goby?” ;-)

You can earn an additional (4) chances to win as well.

1. Tweet about this giveaway and be sure to add @TheRealGoby to your tweet then come back here and leave me a separate comment to let me know you tweeted (add the url from your tweet please).

2. Follow @TheRealGoby and leave a comment here that you did.

3. Fan Goby on Facebook and leave a comment on their wall; come back and leave a comment here that you did.

4. Subscribe to my RSS feed by reader or email and leave a separate comment to let me know you're a new subscriber; you can also drop me a separate comment to let me know if you're already a subscriber for this extra entry.

Remember, you MUST leave me some way to find you online (by email or by your Twitter handle) if you don't have a blog - and if you do have a blog that is not public, be sure to leave me a means of contacting you. Entries with no contact information or means of contacting you online will be disqualified.

This giveaway will end on FRIDAY, March 26, 2010, at 10:00 pm EST. I will announce the winners (selected by Random.org) on MONDAY, March 29, 2010.

Good luck!

Let's Go Krogering! Week of March 15, 2010

Do love finding deals at your Kroger? This feature is for you! Link your post about what deals you found at your local Kroger or Kroger-affiliated store. Simple rules are here; the 149x149 button is in my sidebar.

My Krogering Trip, Monday, March 15, 2010:

Spent: $24.93
Saved: $75.91 (75%)

This week and next week are SUPERB weeks to go Krogering! The March to Savings Mega Event (Buy 8 participating items, get an instant $4.00 off your order) is in effect; this sale offers a great opportunity to stockpile on much needed items so be sure to order coupons early for maximum savings.

I only grabbed a few things this week. Best deal? The Bumblebee Tuna pouches which are a $0.50 money maker after the sale discount and manufacturer coupon. My hubs noshes on these for lunch at work so I'm always stockpiling them even when they aren't on sale - to get them for FREE + overage makes my frugal feet do the happy dance!

In the picture above, all the items on the left side of the red line are the Mega Event items I purchased and all are name brand groceries. I point this out because one *myth* about saving money at the grocery store is that you'll never be able to buy name brand items that cost top dollar. As much as I like a good store brand (and Kroger brands are quite good), the truth is in that picture above: with strategic use of coupons week in and week out, you can not only enjoy name brand grocery and household items, you can save 50% or more off that top dollar price.

Here's the coupons I used this week:

Mega Event Items

Irish Spring 3 pk, $1.50 | $1.00 after sale discount
$0.50/2, SS 03/14
Final price: $0.50 ea

Bumblebee Tuna, $0.99 | $0.49 after sale discount
$0.55/1, SS 02/21
Final price: FREE + $0.51 overage!

Kraft Cheese, $2.17 | $1.67 after sale discount
$1.00/1, Kroger loyal customer mailer coupon
Final price: $0.67 ea

Kraft Cheese Singles, $2.17 | $1.67 after sale discount
$1.00/2, Kroger loyal customer mailer coupon
Final price: $1.17 ea

Nabisco Crackers, $2.49 | $1.99 after sale discount
$1.00/1, SS 01/24
Final price: $0.99 ea

Classico Sauce, $1.99 | $1.49 after sale discount
$1.50 off ground beef WYB (2) Classico Sauce, SS 03/14
Final price: $1.49 ea + $1.50 off the ground beef!

Smart Balance Sticks, $1.99 | $1.49 after sale discount
$1.00/1 Kroger catalina (*Another one printed for me today, too!*)
$0.55/1 Kroger loyal customer coupon
Final price: $0.49 ea

Birdseye Steam Vegetables, $2.18 | $1.68 after sale discount
$0.35/1, SS 02/28
Final price: $0.98 ea

Ken's Dressing, $1.99 | $1.49 after sale discount
$0.50/2, SS 03/07
Final price: $0.99 ea

Other coupons I used:

Bob Evans Sausage Biscuits, $4.91 ea
FREE any Bob Evans frozen item up to $5.00, coupon I received last fall from a Bob Evans event
Final price: FREE!

Danonino Yogurt, $2.49 ea
$0.55/1, SS 02/28
Final price: $1.49 ea

Kroger Corned Beef, $6.47
$1.50/1, Kroger My Magazine coupon
Final price: $4.97
(*A $2.00/1 catalina for Kroger Corned Beef printed for me as well - I'll save it for an after St. Patrick's Day sale!*)

Ground Beef, 5lbs, marked down to $2.99 for quick sale
$1.50/1 5 lbs, Kroger My Magazine coupon

Tropicana Juicy Rewards

You may have noticed in the stores or online that Tropicana Orange Juice is now offering a new promotion called Juicy Rewards.

In a nutshell (or should I say, in an orange peel?!), every carton of Tropicana Orange Juice has a code that can be redeemed for reward points. The points can then be redeemed for - you guessed it - juicy rewards, including destination tickets, retail items, and all sorts of good stuff for you and your family.

We (and by we, I mean my youngest little guy) LOVES Tropicana Orange Juice. So when the call went out for mom bloggers to apply to be a Juicy Insider, I threw my name in the hat. Boy was I surprised when they picked me!

I'll be sharing a bit about how I'm using my Juicy Rewards in the next few months. In the meantime, you can get started here at the Juicy Rewards site. Once you create your account, you can enter the code MOMCE NTRAL (2 separate boxes) to get 1 FREE point. Woot!

I can't wait to see what great deals I can find on fun for my family! I'll keep you updated!

I wrote this review while participating in the Tropicana Juicy Insiders Ambassador program by Mom Central on behalf of Tropicana. I received 12 free Juicy Rewards points and a $50 Visa gift card to use in redemption of the points and to facilitate my review.

Rebate Alert | $5 WYB $20 of Georgia Pacific Products (Brawny, Quilted Northern, Dixie)

There's a new rebate available on Georgia Pacific products:

You can download the rebate form here; note that it expires 04/18/10.

This latest rebate is also found on the front page of one of this Sunday's (3/14) inserts, so you can find it there as well as find oodles of coupons for these products in the insert. Score!

Enjoy!

Then Sings My Soul Saturdays | Thank YOU!

So...after racing around this morning in the cold March rain, off to sell more Girl Scout cookies for my troop, I finally headed home to warm up (we were under an overhang, but I still got awfully wet). I sat down, opened my computer, and checked on my sites (I'm always fearful that something might be going wonky with my coding!).

And when I opened up this site and scrolled down, I saw this:

Wow

I can't tell you what that means to me, seeing that number and knowing that so many of you out there subscribe to this little corner, my little corner, of the web.

I'm a small blogger; I blog here mostly because the act of blogging about deals, couponing, and frugal money management is one of the best tools I've ever found for keeping me on track with my families financial goals.  There's nothing like a little public accountability to keep you honest, you know?

But I also genuinely believe in sharing what I know about saving money and how I implement these small (but impactful) changes in my own life with anyone out there who might need this help, who might desperately be searching for ways to keep more money in their pocket because they are in a time of need.

It means so much to me that so many of you are spending a few minutes of your precious time with this blog every day.  Today, I just want to personally thank you for subscribing and for all you do on your end as readers to comment here, to email me deals, to share your successes and your moments when you stumble (we all do) in your own frugal journey.

This song, my frugal peeps, is for YOU!

Thank you ... Thank you ... THANK YOU!

Feeling inspired?  Go grab the button at Signs, Miracles, and Wonders for Then Sings My Soul Saturday and share your good news at your blog.  ;-)
