Let's Go Krogering! | Week of May 2, 2011 {Buy 10 Items, Get $5 Off Mega Event Returns!}

Wondering what's the deal with my weekly Let's Go Krogering! (LGK!) posts?
 Click here for more information.

This week, Kroger is once again running my favorite kind of sale - a Mega Event Sale!  Buy 10 participating items, get an instant $5.00 off at checkout.

Mega Event sales at Kroger typically run (2) weeks from start to finish which gives you plenty of time to gather your coupons, order additional coupons from a clipping service, look for unadvertised participating items, and read the updates on the blogs for fresh coupon matchups.  These Mega Events offer great opportunities for simple stockpiling for your family as well as getting items for free or nearly free to donate to those in need.

{Psst! Looking for a super duper easy way to use those coupons to make an impact by donating items to your local community?  Join  Couponing for Community and help us meet our goal of 10,000 items (bought free or nearly free with coupons, of course!) donated to Stamp Out Hunger on May 14, 2011. Get the scoop here and join the FB community here. Thanks!}

My Kroger trip yesterday was very small only because I've got plans to head back to Kroger on Friday to get what I'll need for another family get together here at our house this weekend (First Communion for my second grader).  While I'll be sure to grab some more Mega Event items on Friday, I'm also putting up the Official White Dinner Napkin Flag of Hostess Surrender; I'll be headed over to the Deli to order some platters for our party.

Yes, it is spendier to order platters rather than fix the grub myself but it will save me time and my sanity (which is pretty priceless, ya know!).   This is a great example of how frugal living and consistent couponing can create the wiggle room in your budget for extras like holidays, celebrations, or even larger short-term and long-term financial goals.

I also made my usual Monday morning trip to Aldi for milk, produce, popsicles (I really should start stockpiling the ingredients for Jenny's killer popsicle recipe this summer!) and a few other items and spent about $24 on that trip.
